Edinburgh’s own Anna Flynn took gold in the final round of the Scottish Cyclocross series at Chatelherult Country Park.
Flynn, who recently graduated from Edinburgh Napier University, races under team Spectra Racing in Cross-country (MTB) and Cyclocross disciplines.
She crossed the line with a staggering 3 minute 45 second lead ahead of second place Daisy Taylor (Royal Albert CC), who also came second to Flynn last week.
After the race she said: “I’m really happy with my win, I felt really good and it’s given me a lot of confidence going to the British national round in Bradford next weekend.”
The course in Chatelherult is renowned for its slippy grass corners and the grand grass bank in front of the main house, making technique and tactics crucial. Flynn led through all 6 gruelling laps.
“I got away on the first lap and kept extending my gap throughout the race. I tend to ride better on my own as I can take my own lines and it feels like there is less pressure.
“Once I was by myself I focused on pushing hard on the climbs and then riding the technical sections smoothy.”
Last week in Linlithgow she defended her 2024 Scottish Cyclocross National Title and has certainly kept that winning streak alight.
“I came into the series a bit late after having a break from racing at the end of the road/gravel season. So I only raced 2 of the rounds but was really pleased to win both.
“I definitely came into my first race of the season a bit underprepared and chose the wrong tyres for the muddy conditions, so that’s probably the main thing I’d change!”
Flynn will be taking on the British National Championships at the start of 2026. She came fifth in the 2025 National Championships and will be hoping to improve in January.
“British championships are in January and a big goal for me would to be on the podium. I’m doing a bit less cx racing this year so it will be a challenge but hopefully training will go well and I’ll be in a good place for it!”
Flynn is delighted to see Cyclocross increasing within Scotland.
“Scottish cyclocross is in a really good place at the moment, and it’s so good to see the number of women racing increasing. There are also so many kids racing which is really nice to see. It’s such a well organised series and the organisers of all the races do such a good job.”
The British National Cyclocross Championships will be taking pace in South Shields on the 11th of January 2026.
