Elections are just around the corner, and candidates have completely opposite views on many things.
Donald Trump adheres to an isolationist policy, calling for the United States to stop being a policeman of the world and, first of all, mind its own business.
At the same time, Kamala Harris is the ideological successor of Biden’s policies – she believes in the role of the United States as defender of democracy around the globe and she is not going to stop.
Russia-Ukrainian War
Regarding War in Ukraine, both candidates share their opinion quite often.
Kamala Harris has repeatedly expressed her support for Ukraine and President Zelensky in particular. She emphasizes that Putin and Russia are the main enemy of the United States in Europe, and NATO must be ready for a confrontation with it.
She often appeals to Trump’s words that he has a «good relationship» with Putin, and she is confident that her opponent in these elections will sell Ukraine and the Eastern flank of NATO to Putin.
Madam Vice-president promise that she will support Ukraine with arms and finances as much as Ukrainians need to win this war.
Donald Trump, in turn, declares that he will “make peace on the first day of his election”, but has never specified how and under what conditions. His running mate JD Vance, a vice-presidential candidate, is famous for blocking military aid to Ukraine in January 2024, and has also repeatedly spoken negatively about the Ukrainian government and insists on a separate peace for Ukraine.
However, as always happens with Trump, not everything is so clear in his position. Former PM Boris Johnson after meeting with Donald Trump, shared in his Daily Mail column that Trump actually favors at least a partial victory for Ukraine and a fair peace.
According to Boris Johnson, Trump will deliver an ultimatum to Putin, according to which his troops must retreat to the borders on February 23, 2024. Russia can leave the territories occupied during the war in Donbass under its control, but this occupation will not be recognized by anyone. Ukraine will join the EU, and will also join NATO or become its special ally, following the example of Israel.
Donald Trump never made any comments about this column.
War in Gaza
Donald Trump fully supports Israel’s actions in Gaza, and calls for allowing IDF to “finish their job.” He calls Biden a “bad Palestinian” because he calls for a ceasefire and blocks some military aid packages for Israel, while the Pentagon continues to provide full support for Jerusalem in this war.
Kamala Harris is going to continue Biden’s policies: she also calls for a ceasefire, but will still provide military assistance to Israel.
Iran, China and North Korea
Trump has stated many times that under his presidency, Iran, China and North Korea “knew their place” and would not “do anything stupid”. He boasts of his “good relations” with Xi Jin Ping and Kim Jong Un, which will help him maintain peace on the planet. Trump has stated that containing these three countries is his priority and the United States must be ready to show its strength if necessary.
There is no doubt that Asia will be a priority for the Trump administration, which is why he is seeking to make peace in Ukraine as soon as possible in order to avoid a war on two fronts.
During Biden’s presidency, Iran is in the final stages of developing nuclear weapons and many sanctions have been lifted. The Iranian-sponsored Houthis are attacking ships in the Red Sea and cutting internet cables, and the Biden administration is doing nothing to stop it.
China has openly declared its intention to “liberate” Taiwan and frequently conducts military exercises around the island.
North Korea sends troops to Ukraine and openly carries out huge military supplies to Russia.
Kamala Harris, as a candidate from the current administration, makes little comment on these facts of aggression, thereby showing a weak reaction. It’s clear that Kamala Harris is going to maintain the status quo on this issue, continuing Biden’s current policies.
